This Saturday, July 7th, the Boston Cannons head to Ron Joyce Stadium in Ontario, Canada to take on the Hamilton Nationals.
This is the first game back from a one-week break due to the MLL All-Star Game that took place in Palm Beach County, Florida. The ‘Old School’ team walked away with the 18-17 victory over the ‘Young Guns’. The Old School team had three players each from the Cannons and the Nationals. Paul Rabil, Kevin Buchanan, and Chris Eck represented the Cannons while Casey Powell, Brett Queener, and Joe Walters represented the Nationals in the win.
The Boston Cannons will visit the Hamilton Nationals in another re-match of the 2011 MLL Championship.
This is the second meeting of the two teams for the 2012 season. The Boston Cannons forged a victory over the Hamilton Nationals 18-9 on May 12th, in front of a record crowd of 11,277 fans at Harvard Stadium. With three goals and two assists, Ryan Boyle was named Bud Light Player of the Game. The teams split their 2011 regular season series 1-1. Hamilton won in Boston, 16-12, and Boston won in Hamilton, 13-8.The two teams had a final meeting in the 2011 MLL Championship, a game that resulted in the Cannons league victory.
The Nationals are led by Major League Lacrosse legend Casey Powell, 2008 Playoff MVP Joe Walters, six-time defending Warrior MLL Defensive Player of the Year Brodie Merrill, and 6'4'', 254 lb. goalie Scott Rodgers.
However, the Cannons currently have the top goaltender in the league. With 104 saves, 9.57 goals against average and a .578 save percentage, Jordan Burke is the league’s leading goalie.
Paul Rabil and Ryan Boyle remain among the MLL’s top ten scoring leaders this season. Rabil tops the league with a total of 46 points, comprised of 17 goals, four 2pt goals, and 25 assists. Ryan Boyle lands at number 5 with 9 goals and 18 assists for a total of 27 points. The Nationals do not currently have any players in the top 10 scoring leaders for the league.
Hamilton is currently 6th in the league with a 2-5 record so far this season. The Cannons hold spot number 4 with a 5-3 record.
