Cannons Win Home Opener 15-9


Kevin Buchanan leads Cannons to victory over defending MLL champs with a 7 goal game

Boston, MA (April 27, 2014) - The Boston Cannons jumped out to an early lead against the 2013 MLL champions Chesapeake Bayhawks. The Cannons, who won the game 15- 9, were led by Kevin Buchanan who was named the Coca Cola player of the game with his performance of seven goals.

            The game was scoreless for the first ten minutes with both goal keepers making multiple saves. Buchanan scored with five minutes left of the period, picking up a rebound after an initial Chesapeake save. At the end of the first quarter the Cannons were leading the game 2-0. Cannons goal keeper Jordan Burke saved all six shots that he faced within the first quarter.

            Buchanan scored another goal early in the second quarter. Chesapeake goal keeper Kip Turner was injured after the ball deflected off of him. The injury has not been disclosed and he did not return to the game. Turner was replaced by Tyler Fiorito who was scored on just one minute later when facing his first shot of the game by Paul Rabil. Chesapeake scored their first goal with ten minutes left in the second quarter leaving the score 4-1 due to Brendan Mundorf. The Cannons and Bayhawks traded goals throughout the rest of the second quarter. By the end of the half Kevin Buchanan had scored six goals, leaving the score 9-4.

            Chesapeake started the third quarter with a goal, but the Cannons immediately responded with a goal from Paul Rabil. Buchanan tallied his seventh, and final goal of the game near the end of the third quarter. After three quarters the score 12-5 in favor of Boston.

            In the fourth quarter Boston came out strong scoring two quick goals, both assisted by Paul Rabil before Chesapeake scored their sixth goal of the game. Chesapeake scored three consecutive goals to cut the lead to five before Will Manny scored the final goal of the game, assisted my Martin Bowes. 

            Boston was led by Buchanan who scored seven goals on eight shots, Will Manny who had three goals and two assists, and Paul Rabil who had two goals and three assists. Chesapeake was led by Mundorf who scored three goals and three assists.

           The Cannons now head on the road against Rochester for a May 2nd matchup, before coming back to Boston for their second home game of the year against Denver on May 10th.
