Boston, MA (July 23, 2014)- With only three weeks left in the regular season, the Cannons face what is essentially a must-win game when they travel to Florida for the first time to take on the Launch Saturday night at 7pm at Florida Atlantic Stadium. Following their 16-15 overtime loss to NY last week, the Cannons once again fell to 1-game under .500 (5-6) and into a tie for the fourth and final playoff spot with the Ohio Machine.
"Despote the loss, I was very please with the level of play from some of the newer guys," said Head Coach John Tucker. "We have to take it one game at a time. We can't make adjustments for the next until we play this one."
The Launch started the season off extremely well winning 4 of their first 6 games but have now lost 5 games in a row. Their last win came on June 7 thagainst the New York Lizards at home. The Launch are led by league superstar Casey Powell who is leading the MLL in points with 48 (22 goals and 26 assists). The Launch offense is also fuled by rookie Kieran McArdle who has 33 points on the season, 25 goals and 8 assists in 9 games.
The Cannons are coming off a demoralizing loss to the New York Lizards in Week 11. In a matchup of teams fighting for the 3rd spot in the MLL Standings, the Cannons fell in overtime after giving up a 2-point goal with 17 seconds to go in regulation. The Cannons offense was led by Will Manny, Ryan Boyle, and Brent Adams who all tallied 4 points. Jordan Burke got the loss, allowing 14 goals including two 2 point goals while making a season high 22 saves.
"We feel like we have a really special player in Brent Adams here in Boston for the next couple of years," said Head Coach John Tucker.
The Cannons will be looking to get strong performances from the players that they were missing during the FIL World Championships. Midfielder Paul Rabil was named the Outstanding Midfielder of the tournament with 23 points in 7 games. He scored 15 goals and tallied 8 assists to be the second leading scorer for Team USA. Rabil is leading the Cannons in points (44), goals (17) and assists (26).
The Cannons and Launch have never played a game against each other as the Launch are in their inaugural season. The Launch were formerly known as the Hamilton Nationals from 2011-2013 before they moved to Florida.
