Poskay started the scoring just 16 seconds into the game. Shortly after, the long poles led the charge as Brian Farrell scored on a Kyle Sweeney assist. The Hounds tied the game on goals from Brian Carroll and Justin Smith, but Boston never gave up the lead. With just eight seconds on the shot clock, Boyle drove to the net, drawing a flag and scoring. Mike Stone added another, and the Cannons led 4-2 at the end of the first quarter.

After Bill Bitter struck first for the Hounds in the second quarter, Poskay added two more goals in a span of 61 seconds. Charlotte midfielder Stephen Berger scored on an assist from Smith just after Poskay’s third goal. Midfielder Thomas Burke scored his first career goal for the Cannons. With the Cannons’ PT Ricci on the ground after taking a shot to the neck, Josh Amidon cut the lead to 7-5 to end the half. Ricci walked off the field and returned to the game in the second half.

On the first possession of the third quarter, Jovan Miller scored for the Hounds. Kyle Sweeney and Paul Rabil put the Cannons back on the board before Matt Danowski became Charlotte’s seventh goal scorer on as many goals. Boston then went on a 4-0 run with goals from Poskay, Ari Sussman, Bill McGlone - playing his first game in Boston - and Rabil. Charlotte stopped the run with a goal from Smith and a crease-dive goal from Miller, but the Cannons regained momentum with goals from Poskay, Burke and Farrell.

The Cannons entered the fourth quarter with a comfortable 16-9 lead. Berger tallied another goal for Charlotte to start the quarter, but the Cannons tallied three straight, including Waltham native Jon Hayes’ first career goal. Jeremy Boltus’ and Bitter cut into the Cannons’ run, but it was not enough as Stone added one more to end the game, 20-12.

The Cannons return to Harvard Stadium next Saturday, May 12, in a 2011 Championship re-match with the Hamilton Nationals at 7pm. More information and tickets are available at
