BOSTON, MA - The Boston Cannons move back to .500 after defeating the Ohio Machine on Friday night by a final score of 17-16. The Cannons are now 3-3 on the season while the Machine fall to 2-4.

Coming off of a close loss for the Cannons last week, and a dominating performance by the Machine over the Bayhawks week made for a highly anticipated battle between the two teams at Selby Stadium in Delaware, OH.

Despite a slow start on both ends, the Machine gained a 3-0 lead in the first quarter. Stankwick assisted Harrison for the first goal, followed by a two-pointer from Bice. Jordan Burke had another good showing throughout the night, however, after coming into the game with his league best 8.86 goals against average.

Will Manny found Paul Rabil soon after and the Cannons were on the board. Steven Berger brought the Cannons back within one and Will Manny grabbed his second of three assists on the night when he found Marty Bowes to tie the game at 3.

The back and forth battle between the two teams continues through the night. The Machine took a 4-3 lead off of a goal from rookie Schreiber, but Boston came right back with less than 40 seconds to play in the first quarter when Berger tie it back up again.

Chris Eck started off the second quarter by winning the faceoff to gain some momentum. Less than a minute later Manny gave Boston the lead with a left-handed goal. The Machine quickly tied thing back up after that to make it a 5-5 game.

Boston gained back a lead with the help of Will Manny for his second goal of the night, however, Ohio’s Kyle Harrison also scored he second goal of the night moments later and the game was once again tied up.

The Cannons scored three consecutive goals from Owen Blye, Kevin Buchanan, and Will Manny to gain a comfortable lead. With that goal, Manny completed a hat trick on the night.  Before halftime, Ohio caught back up, with goals from Logan Schuss, Peter Baum, and Holman. Seconds before the half ended, Ryan Boyle got one in for the Cannons to put them up by two.

The Cannons come into the third quarter with a 11-9 lead before Ohio scored 4 goals followed by goals from Berger and Mike Stone from Boston to even out the score at 13 heading into the fourth quarter.

Ohio took the lead to start off the fourth quarter, but it didn’t last long as Rabil found Manny in front of the net to tie the game at 14. Rabil and Berger evened out the score once again after Ohio grabbed two goals. Ryan Boyle scored a late goal with just about a minute left to give the Cannons their fourth win on the season by a final score of 17-16 over Ohio.

The Cannons now travel to Maryland to take on the Chesapeake Bayhawks on Saturday, June 14th at 7:30pm on CBS Sports Network.


Game Notes

-Chris Eck won the faceoff battle for Boston winning 18 of 35.

- Will Manny had a career high 7 points leading Boston with four goals and three assists.

-Ryan Boyle scored two crucial goals in important moments in the game, including the game winner, to earn the Coca-Cola Player of the Game

-Boyle scored his league-leading 160th assists is now ahead in the all-time points in MLL race.

-Stephen Berger had his best game as a Boston Cannon tallying 6 points on 4 goals and 2 assists.

-Jordan Burke has 17 saves on the night

-The Cannons are 3-0 all time at Ohio
